Dr. Loren Grossman Cosmetic Dentistry Kingston Pennsylvania

What are the different types of veneers?

When many people think of veneers, they typically understand that they are made to fit on your original tooth, but they often don’t realize that there are several types of veneers available. Dr. Grossman is in expert in helping you determine which type of veneers is best suited to meet your needs. An expert in crafting beautiful smiles, he will perform a full assessment of your oral health and make professional recommendations based on his findings.

Veneers Overview

To help you understand the different types of veneers available, we’ve provided a quick overview below:

Composite Resin Veneers

This type of veneer is considered to be the most common, and a popular treatment for beautifying your smile. Composite resin veneers generally are done in one appointment. After the tooth is prepared or reshaped, Dr. Grossman carefully binds and sculpts the composite material in a color that matches your other teeth. A special light is used to harden the composites, then the veneer is smoothed and polished to look like a natural tooth.

Ceramic Veneers

Ceramic veneers have a smooth translucent surface that provides a very natural appearance. They are more resistant to straining than composite veneers, but require more visits to complete because they involve custom impressions and a laboratory for fabrication.

Ceramic veneers are extremely thin shells made of a strong and durable ceramic. Dr. Grossman removes a small amount of enamel from the front and sides of the tooth, and to make room for the veneers and prevents the restored teeth from feeling or looking bulky or unnatural. Next, the dentist makes an impression of he prepared teeth so that the shape of the preparatory and surrounding teeth can be replicated in the dentist laboratory. At the next visit, the dentist places veneers on the teeth to check the fit, shape and color.

Instant Veneers

These types of veneers are pre-made and sometimes used universally for patients based on their specific needs. They are available in a wide variety of shapes and colors so that the veneer can be matched to your natural tooth.

Removable Veneers

One of the newest options available on the market, this type of veneer snaps on to your original tooth. It can be worn while eating and drinking, and is easily removed for cleaning.
