Loren Grossman, son of Mr. & Mrs. Bernard L. Grossman will receive the Eagle Scout rank. He gets the rank from Troop 32 of the Jewish Community Center at the Charter Night and Eagle Scout presentation ceremonies. This is going to happen Sunday night at 7 in the Jewish Community Center. He is the fourth brother in the family to achieve this coveted award.
As you can see, less than two percent of all boys in scouting reach Eagle rank. As a result, it’s special for all four in one family to attain this goal. So, this sets a record for Penn Mountains Council BSA in recent years.
Grossman is an 11th-grade honor student at Wyoming Valley West. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the WVW Marching and Concert Band. Loren Grossman appeared in the “Music Man.”
He is the recipient of the Red Cross Senior Life Saving certificate and is enrolled in the instructor’s course. He is also vice-president of Jewish Center Youth.
So, in spite of the flood which interrupted his scouting activities for over a year, Loren has earner 21 merit badges and has served in various posts for Troop 32.
In addition, he’s a member of the Order of the Arrow earning the Ner Tamid award, religious award in scouting. Other brothers are Ira Grossman now in his third year of medical school at Downstate Medical Center, the State University of New York, who received his BA degree from Brandeis University; Richard Grossman who will graduate with honors from University of Pittsburgh April 28, who will enter Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C, and Monte Grossman, who will be a graduate in June from Wyoming Valley West where he is a National Merit Commended Scholar. Monte Grossman will enter Boston University in pursuit of his undergraduate degree.
All four brothers are products of Wyoming Valley West School District and received their religious training at Temple Israel, Wilkes-Barre. Theodore Yudkivutz, district commissioner, Penn Mountains Council BSA will confer the Eagle pin on Loren Grossman. Other Eagle presentations will be made to David Berman son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Berman and Mark Greenberg son of Mr. and Mrs. Greenberg. David Hefter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Hefter will receive the “Ner Tamid; Award. David Hoffman is the scoutmaster and Elliot Morris is an assistant scoutmaster.
